Fashion News: Victoria’s Secret fashion show models strut
The annual Victoria's Secret fashion show hit the airwaves on CBS Tuesday night, with Miranda Kerr showing off the $2.5-million fantasy bra (above), Jay-Z making an appearance and 37 other models walking the runway in lingerie. Most of us will never look as good in as few clothes as Miranda and Doutzen Kroes, who is posing at right. But you can at least copy their hair and makeup, with tips from the show's makeup artist, Tom Pecheux. [Us Weekly] [Beauty High]
Because the show was actually taped a couple of weeks ago, Kerr and the fantasy bra were able to make an appearance on Tuesday at the Victoria's Secret at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. [Orange County Register]
The dress Amy Winehouse wore on her "Back to Black" album cover sold at auction in Britain on Tuesday for four times more than had been expected. The dress fetched the equivalent of about $63,000, which is to go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity that aids young people. The buyer was Fundacion Museo De La Moda, a fashion museum in Chile. [Telegraph]
HM's collaboration with Trish Summerville, the costume designer on the soon-to-be-released "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," is scheduled to go on sale Dec. 14. Computer-hacker clothes befitting title character Lisbeth Salander are a big change of pace from HM's recent Versace collection. [The Cut]
Meanwhile, HM announced Tuesday that it will team with Italian design label Marni on a 260-piece collection for men and women, scheduled to go on sale in March. [Los Angeles Times]
The "Hunger Games" nail polish we blogged about recently looks like a non-starter. It seems that as soon as word of the collaboration started to spread, polish company China Glaze and film studio Lionsgate got into a dispute and are heading to court after China Glaze's parent company filed a breach-of-contract suit against Lionsgate. Shoplifting is reportedly up 10% over last year, and it seems as though the thieves may be as interested in looking good as they are in getting something for nothing. A list AdWeek put together of the top 10 items most in danger of being lifted includes Axe body wash and deodorant, shaving products, clothes from Polo by Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, perfume and athletic shoes. [AdWeek]
Dior marked two firsts this week: It opened its first pop-up shop and unveiled its first artist collaboration. The pop-up will be open for about 13 days in the heart of Miami, Florida's Fashion District. And it contains the fruits of the collaboration, stocked full of accessories by German artist Anselm Reyle. [WWD]

Remembering Ken Russell: Ann-Margret talks about her famous ‘Tommy’ scene

British filmmaker Ken Russell, who died Sunday at the age of 84, had a knack for creating images that were unforgettable for both their pop-art beauty and their boundary pushing eroticism: Alan Bates and Oliver Reed wrestling naked in Women in Love (1969), Vanessa Redgrave passionately kissing Jesus in The Devils (1971).
But one scene in his work stands out from the rest for its sheer tongue-in-cheek audacity. In Tommy (1975), Russell’s psychedelic adaptation of The Who’s rock opera, a pinball wizard’s emotionally fragile mother (Ann-Margret) suffers a surreal nervous breakdown, rolling in baked beans, bubbles, and melted chocolate after throwing a champagne bottle into a TV set. “The crew members were all wearing high boots,” recalls the actress, who earned an Oscar nomination for her gutsy performance. “And here I was in my spandex catsuit that was shrinking each time I did a take.” Here’s what else the actress tells EW about the scene that brought her Oscar glory — and a trip to the hospital.
“I remember the first time I met Ken, I was going over to do all the songs for Tommy with Pete [Townshend] and everybody at The Who’s studio in London. I was told that Ken was quite different [laughs] — unusual. I didn’t know what to expect. So we went to lunch. He was gentle. He was really like a lamb. He was charming and mischievous, and he had those bright blue electric eyes.
We did that scene in three days. Each time that he would want to do another take of this sequence, I would have to go in, change, wash my hair, dry it, curl it, and come back. The crew members were all wearing high boots, and here I was in my spandex catsuit that was shrinking each time I did a take. The music was blaring in each scene, really loud.
It was such fun! They had built a wooden tube coming from way above to pour the things down to make it shoot out at me. No one had tried it before. Ken wanted me to look up and pretend that I don’t see anything until it hits me. And when the beans hit me, it just THREW me. My goodness!
When I threw the champagne bottle at the TV set, it really smashed. They got rid of all the broken glass on the carpet, but they had not gotten rid of all the jagged glass in the TV set. And Ken wanted me to thrash my arms around. And of course, one time, I brought my hands up and the soap suds were pink from blood. So they took me away, put loads of towels on me. And here I come into the hospital, looking like a drowned person in this silver knit shrinking catsuit with blood all over. There were 27 stitches.
I’ve never done a movie like that before or since. But the whole experience was wonderful.”

Anne Hathaway sees a gem in fiance Adam Shulman
That's Adam Shulman, 30, an actor-turned-jewelry designer. Photographers caught Shulman and Hathaway, 29, in New York's Central Park over the weekend celebrating their engagement. Hathaway's rep confirmed the news.
Shulman has lately seemed to take a break from acting, shifting his focus to jewelry designing. He co-launched a collection — delicate butterfly necklaces and earrings, a pendant shaped like a light bulb — called James Banks (his middle name? Banks). Lucky featured it in the April issue. It's no wonder Shulman had a hand in designing the Kwiat rock he
